About Verboten Reich

Verboten Reich was my 2nd year's final project. The project's goal was to make a story focused walking simulator horror game under three weeks. I worked as a game and narrative designer on this

DISCLAIMER : Just to be clear if the setting section isn't, this game does not support any extremist political ideas.

Game and Narrative design

On this project, I mainly wrote dialogue and it's impact on the game's main mechanic : suspicion.

Setting :

Verboten Reich was set in a remote german village at the end of WW2, where an ez german soldier, who hated himself for what he did, tried to live outside of the remnants of a monstrous faction's influence. However the village he tries to live in is just full of operatives, and he discovers that the hard way. He would then try to contact help and escape the village.

Suspicion :

In Verboten Reich, suspicion was an hidden value that the player could only somewhat guess, putting them in a situation of stress, as being too suspicious would lead to a game over. Suspicion could only increase as the game took place in only a single night.

So how does the player actually play around suspicion ?

Manipulation through dialogue. The player has to pick the "best" way to talk to monsters in order to survive.
